Dental Sealants in Richmond

Added Protection Where It Matters Most

Some teeth have deep grooves that are hard to clean—even with good brushing. Molars, in particular, tend to collect food in places toothbrush bristles don’t reach. Over time, that can lead to cavities.

Sealants are a quick, painless way to reduce that risk. We apply a thin coating over the chewing surface of the tooth to help seal out bacteria. It’s simple, fast, and surprisingly effective.

How It Works

After we clean and dry the tooth, a liquid material is brushed onto the surface and set using a special light. There’s no drilling. No freezing. And no need to numb the area.

Once the sealant hardens, it acts like a barrier—keeping sugars and acids from settling into the grooves of the tooth. You won’t feel it, and it won’t get in the way of eating or speaking.

Who Should Consider Sealants

Sealants are most common in children and teens, usually placed once the adult molars come in. But they’re not just for kids. If you have a tooth that’s difficult to clean or at higher risk for decay, we may recommend a sealant regardless of age.

FAQ

Have Questions? We’ve Got Answers.

Is this something I’ll need more than once?

Sometimes. Sealants can last several years, but we’ll check them at your regular exams. If one wears down or chips, we can reapply it.

Will it change how my tooth looks?

Not noticeably. Sealants are either clear or tooth-colored, so they blend in naturally. Most people forget they’re there.

Does insurance cover sealants?

Many plans do, especially for children. We’ll check your coverage and let you know what’s included.
