Tufts University School of Dental Medicine recently released the results of the study that they have conducted about the relationship of the use of anesthesia to young children and their lack of lower wisdom tooth. This group of dental professionals discovered the relationship between the injection of local anesthesia in children between two to six years old as an evidence of them missing their lower wisdom teeth. The study suggests that the administration of the local anesthesia may have stopped the impending development of the wisdom tooth.
The study is a breakthrough in itself because no other studies in the past have ever shown the relationship between routinely-administered dental procedures and the growth or the lack of growth in some of the teeth.
Although some people might have the impression that the wisdom tooth only start to grows when an individual reaches a certain age, a wisdom tooth actually begins to form a little after the child is born. It usually becomes visible when the person is in his late teens and early adulthood. However, the study results show that those who have been administered with anesthesia between the ages of two to six often grow a weak wisdom tooth. It is either the wisdom tooth becomes impacted or problematic as a whole.
There is a lot to think about when dental health is put at great risk. Whether it is caused by diet, practices or even routine procedures, it is important that the teeth are always considered before any treatment.
